Nature Inside
“Nature speaks to our souls, whispering words of guidance. It protects and inspires. In nature we can discover our most true self, because we ARE nature.”
— Ashlee Leal
Many of us have grown up in a very “civilized” world. With houses, cars, electronics, public transportation, etc. With this civilization and industrialization we have gained many wonderful things. But sadly, have lost much as well. With the conveniences of this new intelligent world, we are beginning to lose our way. Our earth is suffering. Our families are more sick than they have ever been. Our food is overly processed and stripped of nutrients. Our spirits are lulled by the fluorescent lighting of our 8-5 day jobs and our minds and bodies are paying the consequences. So what do we do? Where do we go from here?
We get back to nature. Nature speaks to our souls, whispering words of guidance. It protects and inspires. In nature we can discover our most true self, because we are nature. It is time to make changes in our daily lives to seek out this healing and unity. If that 8-5 job is supporting you or your family and moving your work outdoors is not an option, get up early and take a walk in the fresh air. If you have children, bring them with you. Teach them to love the brisk morning air. Encourage them to hunt for dew covered spider webs while you move your body and explore.
Do you keep your windows/doors shut and blinds closed during the day? OPEN THEM UP. Allow the breeze of the day to move through your home and the rays of the sun kiss your skin. Plant a garden this spring. If you don’t have a yard, plant one inside! If you are someone who believes you can’t keep a plant alive to save your life, you are wrong. Do some research and ask around. Plant lovers are always happy to help and give guidance.
There are many health benefits to bringing nature into our homes:
Plants filter the air and can even remove toxic gases
You can have access to fresh, organic herbs to use when cooking
Spending time in green environments can improve mental health by reducing stress + anxiety
Many of us are unaware of the amount of chemicals in the air around us. Our carpeting, wall paint and many other products found in our home release volatile compounds into the air. In 1989, NASA conducted a study to curb air pollution in confined spaces. In this study they found that common house plants, daises and chrysanthemums were able to remove up to 90% of toxins from the air in just 24 hours. So if you’re stuck inside or at a desk, go get yourself some indoor plants asap!
We must become aware of what is actually in our unseen environment and realize that for many of us, healing can come from just outside our front doors.
